We have been shortlisted for a 2013 Nexus Commonwealth Award. ‘Making a Difference’ is a new award category that recognises a project by a Commonwealth organisation that has delivered particular impact over the past year, and has the potential to be replicated across the Commonwealth.
Our nomination is for the Caribbean Disaster Reporting course. This nine-week online course is currently being completed by CBA members from a broad cross-section of the Caribbean. It was designed for broadcasters covering both natural and human-instigated disasters, either in the field or from their stations. The course has been structured for broadcasters of varying levels of experience, and the content is applicable to journalists whether they are working in radio, television or multimedia. The project was made possible through a successful proposal to Unesco’s communication development programme.
CBA project manager Adam Weatherhead said: “We are delighted to have been nominated for this award, which recognises the important work the CBA has been doing in the area of disaster preparedness training for broadcasters.”
Winners will be announced at the awards night at Merchant Taylors’ Hall in London on 27 June 2013.
